The Kahnawake Mohawks win the finals series and move on to the Presisents' Cup
Sunday August 3, 2008
The QSLL best of 7 final series ended last night with a convincing win for the Mohawks 11 - 3 over the Indians. The Mohawks took both the regular and playoffs seasons' championship and will be heading to Sherwood Park, Alberta to participate in the 2008 Presidents' Cup as the Quebec rep team. The Indians' organisation wish the Mohawks best of luck at the tournament and hope to see them in the medal rounds.
The Mohawks will go head-to-head with the ILA rep team in game one on August 18 @ 4:30 PM. K103 should have live coverage of all Mohawks games. The Presidents' Cup hosts are presently trying to workout a deal with a webcast company to air the game over the internet.
Across Canada:
Can-Am: Six Nations are leading their series 2 - 0 over Onondaga
Ontario: Owen Sound are leading their series 2 - 0 over Brooklin
Alberta: The final series between the Outlaws and Knights only start on August 8th in a best of 3 series, both teams are already assured a spot in the PC.

Indians at the edge of being eliminated
Friday July 31, 2008
Indians lost to Mohawks 9 - 4 in last night's contest and are down 3 - 0 in this best of 7 series, only 1 game away from elimination. The tight schedule and the injuries are taking a serious toal on both teams, key players sitting out with not enough time to rest between games. The officiating is terrible and some would question whether these injuries are a consequence of the poor performance of the referees in the playoffs. The fans in this community know about lacrosse and they are the first ones to say it. Perhaps the FCQ should revisit their clinics and courses, or perhaps look elsewhere for experience. Enough said.
Game 4 will take palce this Saturday night at 8 pm as the Indians host the Mohawks. Will the Indians find what it takes to rebound and avoid the broom. Come and support your Indians.
Ben Green wins MVP
Thursday July 31, 2008
On Tuesday night, QSLL's VP (Claude Chapleau - left) and QSLL's President (René Cournoyer - right) handed to Indians' sharpshooter Ben Green the "Claude Chapleau" trophy for leading scorer and league MVP. Green finished the season with 29 goals and 26 assists for a total of 55 points. In second place was Raj Wasson from the Valleyfield Dinomytes with 49 points. Congratulations Ben ! You deserve it.
Mohawks down Indians 3 -2 in game #2
Wednesday July 30, 2008
Indians hosted the Mohawks last night in game 2 of the QSLL championship. Mohawks took a 2 goal lead after one period of play. Indians' scoring opportunities were stopped by Ben Vanevery who stood tall in front of his cage.
Indians came back with the only goal of the second period, Muddy Bordeau with his 1st goal of the playoffs on a powerplay. Indians' netminder Alex Fortier made some incredible saves leaving the Mohawks scoreless in the 2nd.
Both teams came in strong in the third. Heath Bordeau burried one at 7:21 in the third; the game was tied at 2 but Mohawks' captain Louis Alfred capitalised on Indians' transition and netted what would become the winning goal.
Mohawks now lead the series 2 - 0. Next contest will be held tomorow night at 8 pm at the Sports Complex.
League decision
Indians' Jonathan Kane is suspended for two more games after the discipline committee responded to Mohawks' request for video review of the incident that took place in game one. The committee concluded that Kane's highstick came after the whistle and seemed deliberate. This decision is final without any possibilty for appeal.
Indians force overtime but not enough to win
Sunday July 27, 2008
The Indians battled the Mohawks last night in game one of the QSLL finals. Jon Kane gave the Indians an early lead with his first of three goals at 29 seconds. Mohawks' Tontie McComber replied at 2:45 to tie the game and the score would remain the same (1-1) after one period. One thing is certain, you could feel the intensity. Both teams playing in front of their own community.
Louis Alfred gave his team the lead at 2:49 into the second period but this would be shortlived as Indians' Ben Green scored 4 seconds later. Game was tied again at 2. Both teams exchanged goals to tie it at 3 but Mohawks' Chris Konopliff netted one at 17:04 and Mohawks took a one goal lead at the second intermision, Winston Goodleaf missing an open net at 1 second.
Regrettably, an incident at the end of second period got everyone at the edge of their seat when Jon Kane sent Colin Diabo to the floor with a 5 minute major (highstick). Diabo was taken to hospital for examination. Jon and the entire Indians' organisation wish Colin and his family all the best and prompt recovery. Of note, Jon Kane got a one game suspension.
Mohawk's Al Jones took matter out of his own hands and scored twice at 8:24 and again at 12:28 in the third to give his team a 3 goal lead. For those of you who think the game was called for at that point, think again. With less than 5 minutes left in the game, the Indians made a spectacular comeback with goals from Eddy Dickson at 16:39 and Jon Kane's second and third of the evening at 17:12 and 19:55. The game was again tied for the fourth time and a 10 minute overtime was forced by the Indians. This last goal came after coach Stacey called a timeout with 27 seconds left in the game and 24 seconds left on the shotclock. Stacey pulled his netminder Fortier to overload Mohawks defenders. It paid off.
Pumped, the Indians intended of taking this game and gave everything. But faith chose otherwise. Kaniat Deer hit the post and Kevin Cator missed a breakaway shooting wide on Ben Vanevery. As in most sports, when you miss your chance, the opponent takes the advantage. That's exactly what happenned, Louis Alfred and Chris Konopliff burried one each at 5:33 and 6:28 of the overtime and Mohawks took game one.
The Indians had the same number of occasions as the Mohawks with 51 shots each. The difference lies on the powerplay goals. Mohawks capitalised on 4 occasions and the Indians only twice. Both teams had 1 shorthanded goal. All this to say that any of these two teams have a chance to win. This is what makes this series exceptionnally interesting and fans enjoyed every minute of it.
Game #2 of this best of 7 finals will be held on Tuesday night at 8 as the Indians host the Mohawks. We hope to see you in great numbers to support the Indians in their battle for the 2008 championship.
Indians send the Dinomytes on vacation
Thursday July 24, 2008
The Indians took on the Dinomytes in game 5 last night and came on top with a 13 - 4 victory. Valleyfield started the game where they left it on Monday. Raj Wasson scored to give his team an early lead and was all over the Indians. All the credit goes to Fortier who managed to keep his team in the game.
Dinomytes were leading 2 - 1 after 16 minutes in the first period but Winston Goodleaf tied it up to 2 - 2 and the Indians never looked back from then on. They went on to score 3 unanswered goals in just 90 seconds, taking the lead 5 - 2 at the first intermission.
The Indians won the second period 3 - 0 and the third 5 - 2. Ben Green finished the night with 4 goals and 3 assists, Heath Bordeau 2 goals 4 assists, Jon Kane 2 goals 2 assists, Cody Delormier 2 goals, Kaniat Deer 1 goal 2 assists, Chad Norton and Winston Goodleaf with a goal and an assist each. Brock Freeman had 3 assists also.
The Indians now advance to the FINALS and will meet the Mohawks in a best of 7 series. The Mohawks also ended their series with an 8 - 1 win over the Sherbrooke Extreme on Tuesday.
The first game of this series will be held this Saturday July 26 at the Kahanwake Sports Complex at 8 PM. You can find the schedule HERE.
The champions will get to represent the QSLL at the 2008 Presidents' Cup in Edmonton, Alberta. The tournament is sheduled to start on August 18 as Quebec takes on the ILA. Click on this LINK for the complete schedule or the the CUP logo.
Indians played with fire and got burned
Dinomytes win 12 - 6
Tuesday July 22, 2008
Said it before, the Indians play a very dangerous game and last night was the perfect example. Again, Indians took too many penalties, 10 in total, and the Dinomytes cashed in on 4 of them. Of note, Valleyfield floored only 14 runners to add to the insult.
Dinomytes' Raj Wasson showed the Indians one trick or two with his 7 points (5,2), and so did Jeff Salmon with 6 points (2,4). Wasson was shooting from all cylinders.
Indians' goals came from 6 different players: Chad Norton, Brock Freeman, Cody Delormier, Ben Green, Kevin Castor, and Charlie Goodleaf.
Indians' netminders Fortier and McComber faced 45 shots wehereas Vallyefield's McFarlane faced 36 shots.
Indians still lead the series 3 - 1 and will try to end it on Wednesday as they visit the Dinomytes at the Vaudreuil arena. Game time is 7.30 PM.
You can watch the game below, thanks to Pierre Lafrance of www.journalsport.ca.
Indians are one game closer to the finals
Caughnawaga downs Valleyfield 4 - 3
Sunday July 20, 2008
The Indians were in action last night and took a serious option on their best of 7 series against the Valleyfield Dinomytes with a 4 - 3 win. They lead the Dinomytes 3 - 0. Goals came from Ben Green with 2, Winston Goodleaf with 1 goal and 2 assists and Kaniat Deer with 1.
Both goalies stood on their head and kept their repective teams in the game until the end. Indians managed to push back a two men up powerplay in the last few seconds of the game. Dinomytes now face elimination.
Game four (4) of this series will be held on Monday July 21 at 8 pm at the Sports Complex.
Indians lead the Dinomytes by 2
Friday July 18, 2008
Indians were hosting the Dinomytes last night in their best of 7 series and outscored them by 6 goals with a 9 - 3 victory. The story of the evening was Alex Fortier who was basically untreatable with 54 saves. Indians' goals came from Jon Kane (1,2), Ben Green (2,0), Kaniat Deer (2,0), Heath Bordeau, Kevin Castor, Kirby Joe Diabo and Cody Delormier with 1 goal and 1 assist each.
Although Indians are leading this series 2 - 0, they are playing a very dangerous game. They allowed 14 powerplays to their opponent but gave in on 2 occasions only, thanks to Fortier who kept his team above water the entire game.
The third game of this series will be held tomorrow Saturday July 19 at 7:30 pm in Vaudreuil. Click HERE for directions. Both teams return to the Sports Complex on Monday July 21 @ 8 pm for game 4.
The Mohawks and the Extreme are in action tonight for game #2 in Sherbrooke. Mohawks lead their series 1 - 0.
Indians upset the Dinomytes and lead the series 1 - 0
Wednesday July 16, 2008
The 2008 QSLL playoffs are underway and the Indians were in action last night as they took on the Valleyfield Dinomytes at the Vaudreuil arena in front of a decent crowd of 135 souls. Not bad for such short notice. The Dinomytes' new fans were hoping to see their team win but the Indians led the whole game without looking back. Game one goes to Indians with a 9 - 5 victory.
Brock Freeman led the Indians with 4 points (1,3) followed by Kevin Castor and Ben Green (2,1), Jon Kane and Kirby Joe Diabo with 2 goals each. Their counterpart Raj Wasson was the most productive with 4 points also (2,2).
Indians' netminder Alex Fortier made 36 saves whereas Dinomytes' Matt McFarlane stopped 42 shots. Hats off to the Indians' defence who hammered their opponents' attack to the ground.
This best of 7 series continues on Thursday at the Sports Complex at 8 PM as the Indians host the Dinomytes for game number 2. The Indians expect to see fans in great numbers.
By the way, the Mohawks also started their series against the Sherbrooke Extreme last night at the Sports Complex and won 8 - 5.
Sweet revenge!
Indians down Extreme 14 - 6
Saturday July 12, 2008
Indians were victorious last night 14 - 6 over the Sherbrooke Extreme. Ben Green collected 8 points (5,3) and unless Louis Alfred (Mohawks) manages to have 13 points tonight against the Extreme, Ben will be crowned as the 2008 league MVP with 55 points (29,26) under his belt.
Having been limited to only 6 goals in their last 2 games, the Indians were hungry for revenge. They scored 7 goals in the first period, 5 in the second and 2 in the third. Indians had a short bench as were the Extreme. Both teams playing 2 games in 2 nights.
Indians's regular season ended on a good note with a record of 11 - 7. Mohawks are therefore the 2008 season champions. Now the stage is set for the playoffs to commence next week. Teams will benefit from a couple of days off to rest and be with the family during Pow-Wow weekend.
Indians have decided to start their series against the Dinomytes on the road, which commences next Tuesday at 7:30 PM at the Vaudreuil arena. Next home game will be Thursday July 17th at 8:00 PM for the second game of the series. Noteworthy, those same Dinomytes, after their win over the Indians on Thursday, beat the Mohawks last night with a score of 4 - 3. Are we gonna see the Dinos upset the Indians ?
Indians in a slump
Friday July 11, 2008
The Indians took on the Valleyfield Dinomytes last night as they were looking to bounce back from their loss to Sherbrooke this past Monday. For the first time of the season, the Indians had too many players and had to scratch some names off their roster while the Dinomytes showed up with 12 runners, no big surprise here. Amazingly, the Dinomytes won 6 - 3 in a very disciplined game with only four penalties being awarded to each team.
Indians' netminder Alex Fortier started the game but was replaced by Ni McComber halfway in the first period after Valleyfield took the lead 3 - 0, coach Derek Stacey wanting to shake the team up. It didn't work, the Indians took a 5 goal deficit after one period.
McComber came out strong for the balance of the game, only giving out on one occasion in the second period while his teammates put 3 on the socreboard but that was all she wrote as both teams went scoreless in the third.
Indians couldn't have chosen a worst time to fall into a slump with only one game left in the season and the playoffs just around the corner.
Indians are on the road tonight as they visit the Extreme to end their season.
Go Indians !
Playofffs schedule
Extreme get their 3rd win against the Indians
Tuesday July 8, 2008
The 2007 defending champions lost 7 – 3 to Sherbrooke last night at the Sports Complex. This was their 3rd loss to the Extreme this season. The Indians’ offence is on neutral against that team and will need to create scoring opportunities if they intend to beat the Valleyfield Dinomytes in the first round of the playoffs, which are set to commence next week.
Once again, Sherbrooke’s netminder Pascal Nolet stood on his head and blocked 40 out of 43 shots. Ni McComber and Alex Fortier shared the action for the Indians. They faced 35 shots altogether.
The Valleyfield Dinomytes will be visiting the Indians on Thursday July 10 at 8 pm for their last match up of the season. So far, the Indians are 5-0 against them. Indians will then finish off where they started, in Sherbrooke on Friday July 11.
Noteworthy, the QSLL board of directors held a special meeting last night to evaluate the season and start preparing for next year. One of the topics on the agenda was the continuity of the Dinomytes activities. The Valleyfield owners are currently in negotiation with a group of buyers in Vaudreuil-Dorion and will most likely relocate in that area next summer.
In order to test the market, the Dinomytes have requested to hold their playoff games at the Vaudreuil arena starting July 15. Due to scheduling conflicts, the Indians have agreed to start the series against the Dinomytes on the road.
Indians playoffs schedule
Indians lit up the Dinomytes
Friday July 4, 2008
With only four games remaining in the regular season, the Indians were on the road last night and improved their record to 10 - 5 with a 13 to 6 win over the Valleyfield Dinomytes. Both teams had reduced personnel with 12 runners on each side. Chad Norton led the Indians with 8 pts (5,3). Kaniat Deer (2,4), Ben Green (3,1), Heath Bordeau (1,1), Jon Kane and Cole McComber with 1 goal each. As for their counterparts, Ryan Seymour's woodie was on fire and led the Dinomytes with 3 goals.
Playoffs are scheduled to commence on July 15. Both the semis and finals' format will be best of 7s. As it stands right now, the Indians would take on the Dinomytes and the Mohawks will face Sherbrooke. The schedule for the first round should be made available next week. The league is holding a special meeting on Monday.
Rumour has it that the Extreme got a face lift and brought in new talent just before the cut off date of July 1st. The Extreme will be at the Sports Complex tomorrow as they face the Mohawks and again on Monday July 7th as they take on the Indians. Next week will be crunch time for the Indians as they are set to play 3 games in 5 days.
Finally, the Indians are pleased to announce that Hunter Lahache finally came out and signed. He should be in the lineup next week in order to qualify for the playoffs.

Indians get away with an OT win in Valleyfield
Sunday June 29, 2008
While the Mohawks managed to win 8 - 7 in overtime in Sherbrooke on Friday, the Indians were victorious Saturday night in Valleyfield 11 - 10 but also required an extra period to improve their record 9 - 5.
The Indians were determined to put this game in the bag but the Dinomytes had no intentions of giving them a freebe. Indians came in on top after one period leading 4 -1 but the Dinomytes made a strong comeback in the second outscoring the Indians 4 -1 and the game was tied at 5. Both teams mutually exchanged 3 goals in the third forcing overtime.
Indians hit Valleyfield quickly in the 4th with 2 goals within 76 seconds into overtime but the Dinomytes replied 16 seconds later. Guy Hemlock tied the knot and scored what would be the decisive goal.
Remarkably, the Dinomytes had 70 shots on Alex Fortier while the Indians took 45 shots on Matt McFarlane. No surprise, the Indians had only 12 runners.
Both teams will go at it again next Thursday July 3rd in Valleyfield at 7:30 PM at the St-Timothée arena.
Reminder: The deadline for tranfers and signings is July 1 at 23h59. Who will come on top ?

Mohawks take first
Sunday June 22, 2008
Last night was the last regular season game between the Indians and the Mohawks and the Mohawks won 9 - 4. Indians were short staffed with only 14 runners as key players were attending the Cornwall Minor Lacrosse Tournament as coaches and parents, but Indians managed to tie the game at 4 at mid-point with a nice play from Cole McComber anticipating a pass from goalkeeper Ben Vanevery to Callum Crawford leaving him with an open net. Indians could not find the inside of the net afterwards. The fans witnessed a pretty good fight between Pat Collins and Angus Horn, with no with real winner but at least the fans enjoyed it.
With 5 games remaining in the season for all teams, the stage is pretty much set for the playoffs. Unless Mohawks lose before season end, they are the 2008 QSLL league season champions. The first round will be a best of 5. If standings stay as is, the Indians would match up with the Dinomytes as the Mohawks take on the Extreme. Playoffs should commence week of July 14th, just after the Pow-Wow.
The Indians have now a week off the heal these injuries. Their next game is Saturday June 28 @ 7:30 PM in Valleyfield (St-Timothée arena).
Mohawks down the Indians with a contraversy goal
Saturday June 21, 2008
As the race to the playoffs nears to end, the defending champions had to win to maintain their lead over the Mohawks. The Indians were pumped to do so taking a serious option on the game leading 3 - 0 after one.
This lead was short lived as the Mohawks came back in the game with 4 unanswered goals early in the second to take the lead 4-3. Both teams mutually exchanged goals to finish the second period tied at 8. It took half of the 3rd to witness the worst call since the beginning of the season as Mohawks' Louis Alfred hit the post and was awarded wih the goal to give his team with the lead.
Tonight's game should be a barn burner as the battle for first continues.
Noteworthy, Indians had to call up two players, Shamrocks' Nick Boehler and Olivier Damphousse, to fill in for Connor Stacey and Kerry Goodleaf. Also missing were Ben Green, Winston Goodleaf and Angus Horn who should all be in the line-up tonight.

Mohawks find winning ways, Indians protest loss

On the floor the Kahnawake Mohawks have a six-game winning streak. But the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League has awarded the June 7th match-up between the Mohawks and the Caughnawaga Indians to the Indians, effectively turning the six-game winning streak into a three game winning streak. The Mohawks won the game 6-2, but the Indians filed a protest with the league saying the Mohawks used an ineligible player.
The June 7th game was Callum Crawford’s debut with the Mohawks and Indians protested saying that he was ineligible to play because he was their 26th contract player to suit up for the Mohawks. Under QSLL rules teams are given 30 player contracts, but are only allowed to have 25 players signed at any given time.
On Friday evening the league ruled in favour of the Indians and awarded the June 7th game to the Indians and fined the Mohawks $250. Now the Indians are in first place with a record of 8-3 with 16 points, while the Mohawks are in second with a record of 7-4 with 14 points.
This past weekend was a busy one for the Mohawks, who had to play three games in four days. The first match-up was a home game Thursday night against the Valleyfield Dynomites at the Kahnawake Sports Complex.
The Mohawks opened the scoring at 1:52 in the first period on a goal by Crawford from Al Jones and Wahiio Jacobs. That was the lone goal of the first period. However, the Mohawks continued to find the net in the second period, while playing a solid defensive game. Goals came from Jones, and both Crawford and Curry Rice each scored two in the second (giving Crawford the hat trick).
Going into the third period the Mohawks held a 6-0 lead. There was no score in the third until the seven-minute mark when Rajinder Wasson scored the first of a natural hat trick. His next two goals came at 10:06 and 10:44 making the score 6-3. Not to be outdone the Mohawks responded with two goals from Jones to complete his hat trick. Valleyfield’s Stewart McFarlane scored the last goal of the game. The final score was 8-4.
This past Saturday the Mohawks traveled to the St. Timothee Arena to take on the Dynomites in the second half of a home-and-home series. The Mohawks started the game with a power play as the Dynomites were given a delay of game penalty before the first face-off.
At 00:50 of the first period Lance Mitchell scored his first goal as a Mohawk to give his team a 1-0 lead. Then at 5:19 Callum Crawford scored, which was followed by goals from DJ Serr and Clay Kirby. Crawfors and Mitchell both scored their second of the game, giving the Mohawks a 6-0 lead to close out the first period.
It took the Mohawks almost half the second period to find the back of the net again. At 9:36 Serr scored his second of the game and 12 seconds later Kirby netted his second. At 10:45 Adam Delormier put Valleyfield’s first in the net followed by Ryan Jacobs at 15:20. At the end of the second period the Mohawks led 8-2.
Just 27 seconds into the third period Valleyfield’s Jeff Saumon scored. Then at 4:25 Jones and Greg Diabo set up Crawford for his third of the night. Valleyfield’s Stewart McFarlane scored his tenth of the season at 5:45 making the score 9-4. Then at 9:29 Crawford’s fourth of the game found the back of the net. The final score was 10-4.
Mohawks visit Extreme
The following day the Kahnawake Mohawks traveled to Sherbrooke’s Julien Ducharme Arena to take on the Extreme. Going into Sunday’s game the Mohawks sported a 2-0 record against the Extreme.
For the first half of the first period the game was scoreless and then at 10:40 Callum Crawford scored his tenth of the season. However, the Extreme was quick to respond with two goals from Sean Steinwald at 12:56 and 17:17. The period ended with Sherbrooke enjoying a 2-1 lead over the Mohawks.
Just 1:30 into the second period Louis Alfred tied it up at 2-2. But at 4:26 Drew Pollock gave the Extreme the lead again, only to be followed by Alfred tying it up again at 6:48. Then at 11:46 Pat Collins scored a shorthanded goal to give the Mohawks a 4-3 lead. At 13:47 Alfred scored his third of the game and Curry Rice rounded out the scoring for the period giving the Mohawks a 6-3 lead.
The Mohawks controlled the scoring in the third period. At 1:17 Rice netted his second of the game. Crawford then scored at 6:08 and less than a minute later Al Jones scored his fifth of the season. At 14:35 Afred scored his fourth of the game and at 15:45 Curtis Diabo scored his 13th of the season. Sherbrooke’s Christopher Fowlis and Vincent Dubreuil each scored to end the period. The Mohawks won by a score of 11-5.
Indians visit Extreme
On Friday night the Caughnawaga Indians traveled to Sherbrooke looking to avenge an 8-7 overtime loss from May 29. The Indians managed a convincing win, doubling the Extreme 8-4. Scoring for the Indians were Josh Brassard, Heath Bordeau (2), Kaniat Deer, Patrick Hargreaves, Connor Stacey, Angus Horne and Chad Norton.
Kerry Goodleaf and Mitch Young fought resulting in a two game suspension for each player.
The Indians hosted the Mohawks last night at the Kahnawake Sports Complex. The two local teams will finish off their regular season series tomorrow night at the Sports Complex at 8 p.m.

Indians took the road to Sherbrooke last night looking for revenge from the overtime lost to the Extreme on May 29th to secure their lead in the standings. Injuries and work commitments led the Indians to bring up players from its affiliated team, the Montreal Shamrocks of the Quebec junior league, as Joshua Brassard, with its first game of the season as an Indian, put the first point on the scoreboard at 7:58 in the first during a penalty kill. Heath Bordeau also scored at 15:30 as the Indians took the lead 2-0 after one period of play.
Extreme's Sean Steinwald with his 13th of the season scored at 8:41 into the second period as the Indians replied with two goals from Deer and Hargreaves' sticks at 9.17 and 11.37. Seven goals were exchanged in the 3rd period. Indians' Connor Stacey (1st), Angus Horn(1st), Heath Bordeau(7th) and Chad Norton(11th) as Extreme's Steinwald, Fowlis and Beketa marked the scoresheet. Game goes to Indians with a 8-4 win.
One thing is certain, goaltending is at its best this season. Extreme's Pascal Nolet stood on his head again last night and stopped the Indians 59 times while his counterpart, Indians' Alex Fortier blocked 46 shots.
Indians next games are June 19 and 21 as they face the Mohawks for their last back to back games of the season and will probably decide the tie breaking for 1st place as both teams get closer to the playoffs.
Of note, the deadline to import and sign players is June 30, 2008 midnight. The Quebec Lacrosse Federation has also filed its application to send Quebec champions to the Presidents' Cup in Edmonton, Alberta in August. It will come down to the Indians or the Mohawks as Sherbrooke and Valleyfield have already stepped down.
Game protest
After last week's loss of 6-2 to the Mohawks, the Indians issued a game protest to the Quebec senior lacrosse league's discipline committee as the Mohawks played newcomer Callum Crawford while he was ineligible to play. The League rendered its decision last night and awarded the Indians with the win and the two points in the standings.

Going into last weekend’s games the Mohawks were looking to strike back against the Indians.
In last Thursday’s game the Mohawks came out gunning. Jason Tasse notched the first goal for the Mohawks just 1:03 into the game. At 5:24 Ian Crawford gave the Mohawks a 2-0 lead. Just seven seconds later though, Heath Bordeau scored for the Indians, making it 2-1. Tontie McComber netted a shorthanded goal and Tasse scored his second of the game to make it 4-1 for the Mohawks to close out the first period.
The Indians started the second period with something to prove. Winston Goodleaf scored just 17 seconds into the period to make it 4-2. By the midway point of the period Indians captain Eddy Dickson and Goodleaf tied the game up at 4-4. The Mohawks didn’t let the game stay deadlocked very long. At 14:00 Carl Horn netted his fourth of the season to give the Mohawks a 5-4 lead. Louis Alfred then scored his tenth to make it 6-4 going into the third.
Going into the third period Horn, Crawford and McComber each netted their second goal of the game to make it 9-4. With just under two minutes left Kaniat Deer scored to make it 9-5, which was the final score.
Mohawks goaltender Ben Vanevery stopped 40 of 45 shots en route to his recording his second win in Senior lacrosse. The Mohawks also played a better-disciplined game and only allowed three power play goals.
Saturday night the Mohawks hosted the Indians at the Kahnawake Sports Complex. The Mohawks had a new edition to their lineup with Callum Crawford (Ian’s brother), who also plays for the Chicago Shamrox of the National Lacrosse League.
Mohawks captain Louis Alfred opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the game. Two minutes later rookie Curry Rice scored his first of the season to give the Mohawks a 2-0 lead. Then at 10:49 Callum Crawford scored his first QSLL goal to add another goal to the Mohawks lead. At 12:47 the Indians finally answered back on a power play goal by Kaniat Deer.
Going into the second period the Mohawks enjoyed a 3-1 lead when Greg Diabo scored his first of the season making it 4-1. Diabo’s goal came at 15:57 and was the only goal of the period.
The Indians tried to mount a comeback in the third with Heath Bordeau scoring his fifth of the season on the power play at 2:21. That comeback was short-lived as both Crawford and Rice scored their second goals of the game. The final score was 6-2.
The Mohawks once again played a very disciplined game against the Indians taking only 12 penalties and only giving up two power play goals and Vanevery saved 43 of 45 shots.
The Indians play in Sherbrooke tonight as they look to end their two-game losing streak. The Mohawks played against the Valleyfield Dynomites last night at the Kahnawake Sports Complex. The Mohawks will travel to St. Timothee to take on the Dynomites in the second game of their home-and-home series. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Extreme downs Indians // Indians double Dynomites

The Caughnawaga Indians lost a nail-biter of a game against the Sherbrooke Extreme – the only team that has been able to down the Indians so far this season. The first-place Indians came out firing but the Extreme goaltender Pascal Nolet stood on his head and seemed to be stopping Indian scoring opportunities every chance he got.
At the seven-minute mark the Extreme’s Andrew Barber opened the scoring. Then at 11:59 Mike Dubé made it 2-0. Thirty-seven seconds later Sean Steinwald scored to make it 3-0. It seemed like no matter what the Indians snipers threw at Nolet nothing was going in. Then at 18:03 Heath Bordeau netted his first of the season in his Indians debut to make it 3-1.
The Indians scoring woes continued into the second period. Then at 10:31 Kirby Joe Diabo netted his eighth of the season to make it 3-2. Just over two minutes later Steinwald netted his second of the game to make it 4-2. Barber then took a holding penalty and Indians captain Eddy Dickson scored on the ensuing power play. Martin Charland then took a high sticking penalty for Sherbrooke. This time Chad Norton scored on the power play to tie the score up at 4-4, which is how the period ended.
Sherbrooke came out firing in the third period and soon had a 6-4 lead on the Indians off goals from Dubé and Jean-Simon Demers. Dickson decided to take matters into his own hands and scored two goals eight seconds apart around the seven-minute mark to tie it up again.
Then at 11:55 of the third period, Winston Goodleaf gave the Indians their first lead of the night. That lead was short-lived though, as Steinwald netted the equalizer with four minutes remaining in regulation. Neither team was able to net the winner so the game was sent to overtime.
At 7:19 of the overtime period Kaniat Deer was given a holding penalty. Prior to play resuming Goodleaf was ejected from the game for abuse of officials. Less than a minute into the power play Sherbrooke’s Alex Dubé netted what proved to be the game winner. This was the Indians first loss since the start of the season on May 2 in Sherbrooke.
At first it looked like the Indians were up for more of the same when they took on the Valleyfield Dynomites, Saturday night at the Kahnawake Sports Complex.
At 1:58 into the game Rajinder Wasson scored to give the Dynomites a 1-0 lead. However, three unanswered goals came off the sticks of Dickson, Kerry Goodleaf and Kaniat Deer to make the score 3-1. Sako Swamp then scored on the power play at 14:40 to bring his team to within one. At 15:17 defenseman Patrick Hargreaves made it 4-2.
Valleyfield’s Adam Delormier made it 4-3 just 38 seconds into the second period. Indians sniper Ben Green scored six goals in the second period alone. Other goals came off the sticks of Heath Bordeau and Kaniat Deer for the Indians and Delormier, Sako Swamp and Wasson. The Indians led the Dynomites 12-6 going into the third period.
Chad Norton scored for the Indians to start the third. Valleyfield’s Jonathan Pigeon and Stewart McFarlane responded making the core 13-8. The next four goals came off Indians’ sticks. The Indians offense proved to be too much for Valleyfield and the Indians won 20-10. Rounding out the scoring was Bordeau, Norton, Dickson and Deer. Swamp scored two more for his team as well.
The Indians hosted the Mohawks last night and will take them on again tomorrow night at the Kahnawake Sports Complex. Game time is 8 p.m.

The Kahnawake Mohawks were looking to avenge a 9-6 loss to the Caughnawaga Indians last Thursday night at the Kahnawake Sports Complex in their second match-up of the season. The Mohawks were looking for a strong showing against the Indians.
Just 19 seconds into the game Mohawks defenseman Carl Horn netted his second goal of the season. By the four-minute mark the Mohawks led 3-0 after goals from Louis Alfred and Ian Crawford (shorthanded). Just 15 seconds after the Mohawks netted their third goal Kirby Joe Diabo scored on the power play for the Indians. Midway through the period Kaniat Deer netted his second of the year, which was on the power play. At 12:05 Winston Goodleaf tied the game for the Indians, scoring a power play goal. Chad Norton and Brock Freeman closed out the scoring for the Indians in the first period.
The Indians went into the second period leading 5-3. The Indians continued to dominate in the second period, scoring another seven goals to the Mohawks one. Alfred scored the lone goal of the period for the Mohawks. Goals came off the sticks of Indians captain Eddy Dickson, who notched three, Patrick Hargreaves, Cody Delormier, Diabo and Ben Green. By the end of the second period the Indians had a convincing 12-4 lead.
Although the scoring continued into the third it was lowest scoring period of the game, with only four goals scored. Green netted his second goal of the game, followed by Diabo’s third for the Indians. Horn netted his second of the game for the Mohawks. Indians’ Winston Goodleaf closed out the scoring with his fifth of the season. The final score was 15-5 for the Indians.
The Mohawks were looking for a different result as it sported somewhat of a different look than in their first meeting with the Indians. Lance Mitchell made his debut after he and his brother Lucas were traded to the Mohawks from the Valleyfield Dynomites. Mitchell proved not to be a factor in the game as he was held off the score sheet.
Also making his debut with the Mohawks was goaltender Ben Vanevery. The rookie goaltender from Six Nations backstopped the Six Nations Arrows Express to the Minto Cup last year. His senior lacrosse debut was less than impressive as the Indians chased him from the net midway through the second period. He returned in the third and fared much better. With a little more time between the pipes at the senior level he is going to be a top goaltender in this league.
Once again penalties and special teams proved to be the Achilles heel for the Mohawks. The Indians were able to capitalize on ten of their 18 power plays, while the Mohawks couldn’t convert any of their 11 power play opportunities.
Mohawks versus Extreme
After posting a 3-2 record after the first five games of the season the Mohawks were looking for a good game against the Sherbrooke Extreme at the Kahnawake Sports Complex, Saturday night. The Mohawks came out gunning, scoring four unanswered goals in the first period. Goals came from Curtis Diabo, DJ Serr, Louis Alfred and Pat Colins.
The Mohawks continued their dominance into the second period and scored another four goals before Sherbrooke finally put one on the board. Serr scored two goals 22 seconds apart, both on spectacular passes from teammate Tontie McComber. McComber also netted his third goal of the season, followed by Diabo’s second of the game and 12th of the season. Mike Dubé scored two goals for Sherbooke.
Going into the third period the Mohawks led the Extreme 8-2. Third period scoring came from Ian Crawford, Jason Tasse and Alfred for the Mohawks. Sherbrooke goals came off the sticks of Sean Steinwald, Andrew Barber and Mitch Young. Mohawks won the game 11-5. All of Sherbrooke’s goals came on the power play.
Indians versus Dynomites
At the same time the Mohawks trounced the Extreme, the Indians traveled to Valleyfield to take on the Dynomites. The Indians were looking to improve their record to 5-1 on the season. It was an exciting game with the lead changing hands several times. In the end the Indians came out on top 9-7.
The Indians took on the Extreme last night at the Kahnawake Sports Complex. They’re next in action tomorrow night at 8 p.m. as they take on Valleyfield at the Kahnawake Sports Complex.
The Mohawks are next in action on Thursday, June 5 as they take on the Indians.

Mohawks get smoked
Friday May 23, 2008
Earlier this week, the Mohawks went ahead with two transactions hoping to turn things around for them. The first, sending 3 players to Vallyefield for the Mitchell brothers and the second, signing of Six Nations' Minto Cup champion Ben Vanevery in nets, who played his last junior season last year with the Arrows. The rookie didn't have to wait too long to find out what senior B lacrosse is all about.
The Mohawks were the first to score with 19 seconds into the game and taking the lead 3 - 0 after only 4 minutes of play. But that's all she wrote for the Mohawks. The Indians came back strong with 5 unanswered goals. After one period of play, Indians leading 5 - 3 and never looked back, leading 12 - 4 after two and winning the game 15 - 5.
If it's any indication how the game went, the Mohawks played almost the whole game shorthanded. The Indians, on the otherhand, took advantage of their opponent's poor discipline and scored 10 of 16 powerplays whille the Mohawks went 0 - 10. Indians' penalty kill unit also scored on 3 occasions, one of which was with 2 man down.
Chad Norton (1g 6a), Kirby Joe Diabo (3g 2a), Eddy Dickson (3g 1a), Winston Goodleaf (2g 3a), Ben Green (2g 1a) lead the Indians to victory. Hargreaves, Deer, Delormier and Freeman also with a goal each. Alexandre "the great" had a fantastic evening, stopping 36 of 41 shots in his direction while Indians' Ni McComber jumped into the game with 6 minutes left in the game to secure Indians' win.
Indians will be on the road this weekend, taking on the Dinomytes this Saturday at the Civic Centre in Valleyfield. Game is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

After splitting a home-and-home series with the Valleyfield Dynomites, the Kahnawake Mohawks dropped to second place in the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League standings. The Caughnawaga Indians downed the Sherbrooke Extreme at home Saturday night, improving their record to 3-1 and putting them in sole possession of first place.
Last Thursday night, the Dynomites visited the Kahnawake Sports Complex to take on the Mohawks. A minute and a half into the game the Mohawks opened the scoring on a goal from Curtis Diabo. Valleyfield responded with two goals from Ryan Jacobs and Lance Mitchell and took a 2-1 lead. The Mohawks offense responded with goals off the sticks of Jason Tasse, Colin Diabo and Tontie McComber and the Mohawks closed out the period with a 4-2 lead.
The Mohawks offense dominated the second period with Curtis Diabo scoring two more, Colin Diabo netting one and Pat Collins scoring his first of the season. The Mohawks defense was able to keep Valleyfield from scoring in the second. At the end of the second the Mohawks led 8-2.
Valleyfield came out in the third period firing with Reid Raymer and Rajinder Wasson. Valleyfield’s burst of offense wasn’t enough to make a comeback. The Mohawks scored three more goals off the sticks of Carl Horn, Ian Crawford and Tontie McComber. The final score was 11-4.
Valleyfield was able to get revenge Saturday night when they took on the Mohawks at the St. Timothee Arena. Early in the first period Sako Swamp opened the scoring for the Dynomites. By the midway point in the period Curtis Diabo evened it up for the Mohawks on the power play. The period ended with a 3-1 lead for Valleyfield after a goal by Jonathan Sauvé and a second one by Swamp.
Reid Raymer scored the lone goal of the period for the Dynomites in the second period. Rajinder Wasson scored for Valleyfield early in the third. Kahnawake’s Louis Alfred netted his fifth of the season at 3:59 of the third. That was followed by four unanswered goals by Valleyfield from Stu Barnes, Wasson, Adam Delormier and Lance Mitchell. Curtis Diabo and Chris Konopliff each scored to end the period and Valleyfield came out on top 9-4.
In other action, the Caughnawaga Indians took on the Sherbrooke Extreme at the Kahnawake Sports Complex on Saturday night. The Indians were looking at getting even against the Extreme, who beat them in the first game of the season.
The Indians doubled Sherbrooke 6-3. Indians goals came from Ben Green (2), Kaniat Deer, Winston Goodleaf, Chad Norton and Clint Goodleaf. Aaron Norton also played in his first game since 2000.
The Indians took on the Mohawks last night at the Sports Complex. Prior to last night’s game the Mohawks traded Kevin Castor, Sewantanon Skidders and Robbie Woods to the Dynomites for Lance and Lucas Mitchell as well as monetary compensation.

Will history repeat itself ?
Wednesday May 21, 2008
The Indians will be hosts to the Kahnawake Mohawks tomorrow night at the Sport Complex for the 2nd match-up of the season. Indians won the first draw on May 10th by the mark of 9 - 6, Indians capitalized on Mohawks' indiscipline and goaltending. Mohawks will try to rebound from their 9 - 4 loss to Valleyfield last Saturday. One thing is certain, there will be lots of action. Fans are invited to come in early to catch every minute of the game.
Trade:
Following a rough season start, the Mohawks have traded players Kevin Castor, Sewantanon Skidders and Robbie Woods to the Valleyfield Dinomytes in exchange of fowards Lucas and Lance Mitchell as well as monetary compensation. Will these players make a difference ?
Heath Bordeau, who played Sr B for the North Shore Indians last season in BC, should be in the line-up for the Indians.

And the rivalry is on! The Caughnawaga Indians and the Kahnawake Mohawks kicked started their rivalry Saturday night at the Kahnawake Sports Complex in front of more than 750 fans. Both teams were looking for a good showing in front of the hometown crowd as the Indians took a 9-6 decision.
If the Mohawks home opener is any indication Kahnawake lacrosse fans are in for a real treat this season and the teams are only going to get better as the season progresses.
The Indians scored the first goal of the game off the stick of Ben Green. Green’s fifth goal of the season was unassisted and came shorthanded at 7:50 of the first period. Christian Hébert netted his first goal of the season to give the Indians a 2-0 lead midway through the first period.
Then at 13:33 Curtis Diabo buried his third of the season to put his team back in the game. However, as the period was winding down Mohawks defenseman Ryan “Chucky” McComber took a high sticking penalty and Indians captain Eddy Dickson made it 3-1.
The Mohawks came back early in the second period as Diabo netted another one to bring his team to within one. Then at 11:20, Mohawks Ian Crawford scored a shorthanded goal to lock it up at 3-3. Back-to-back goals by Brock Freeman and Dickson gave the Indians a two-goal lead again in the second half of the period.
Mohawks forward Louis Alfred responded by scoring his third and fourth goals of the season in just over a minute apart to tie it up at 5-5. With less than a minute to go in the frame McComber took another high sticking penalty and the Indians capitalized with Kirby Joe Diabo scoring his fourth of the season on the ensuing power play. Curtis Diabo was able to tie it up at 6-6 with just 13 seconds remaining in the period.
At the end of the period Dickson was penalized for holding, which gave the Mohawks a power play for the first two minutes of the third period. Unfortunately, the Mohawks were not able to capitalize on the man-advantage. The Mohawks coaching staff decided to pull netminder Peter Paul after the second period and went with Pat Poirier in the third.
The Indians took the lead when Chad Norton scored his third goal of the season at 3:16. The Indians continued to dominate the third period with Norton scoring another and Freeman adding his second of the game.
The Mohawks offense in the third couldn’t capitalize on its chances and Indians goaltender Alex Fortier played spectacular. One of the main differences in this game was the work of special teams. The Indians scored on four of their nine power play opportunities, while the Mohawks went zero for seven.
Last Thursday night, the Indians took on the Valleyfield Dynomites in their home opener at the Kahnawake Sports Complex. The Indians downed Valleyfield 11-9 in front of about 450 fans for the first Senior lacrosse game in Kahnawake since 2005. With their win over the Mohawks, the Indians improved their record to 2-1 and are now in first place in the QSLL standings. Last Friday, the Mohawks opened their season on the road in Sherbrooke and downed 11-6.
The Mohawks took on Valleyfield last night at the Kahnawake Sports Complex and will be on the road tomorrow in Valleyfield at 7:30 p.m. The Indians are next in action tomorrow night at the Kahnawake Sports Complex as they take on the Sherbrooke Extreme at 8 p.m.

Indians win their home opener
Friday May 9, 2008

After a two year absence, last night marked the return of senior B lacrosse at the Sports Complex in Kahnawake as the Indians hosted and defeated the Valleyfield Dinomytes by the mark of 11 to 9. Ben Green and Kirby Joe Diabo lead the Indians' offense with each a hat trick. On Valleyfield's side, Lance and Lucas Mitchell's sticks were on fire but Indians' Alex Fortier lead his team to victory.
Of note, the Indians celebrated their home season opener by inviting Caughnawaga Indians' legends who received a stand up ovation during the 1st intermission.
The Indians are now preparing for what should be a "barn burner" on Saturday May 10th as both Kahnawake teams will meet for their first match-up. The Kahnawake Mohawks will be hosting the Indians at 8 pm @ Sports Complex.
It was a real “wagon burner” !!! Indians lose season opener.

The Caughnawaga Indians lost their season opener to the Sherbrooke Extreme, Friday night in Sherbrooke 7-5. If first game of the 2008 Quebec Senior Lacrosse League was any indication, we could be in for a very interesting season.
The Indians went into a very hostile environment at the Julien Ducharme arena in Sherbrooke. It was evident the Extreme were playing head games the moment the Indians arrived at the arena. The game was scheduled for 8 p.m. and the Indians bus only pulled in after 7 p.m. and there wasn’t a room ready for them.
Once everything was squared away and the game got going, the first period was well played. The Indians took an early 2-0 lead off goals from Eddy Dickson and Chad Norton. Had it not been for the superb play by Extreme goalie Pascal Nolet, the score easily could have been much higher. On the other end of the floor, Alex Fortier played spectacular and kept his team in the lead.
During the first period it was also disheartening to see Extreme fans make derogatory whooping gestures towards the Indians players after they scored. The game turned ugly at the end of the period as the Indians were leaving the floor and a brawl broke out in front of the players’ benches.
When all was said and done three players from each team were ejected from the game. The fight started when an Indians player took exception to Extreme coach Damien Roy calling him a “wagon burner.”
For the Indians, Jonathan Kane was suspended for five games for fighting, instigating and spearing and Kaniat Deer and Charlie Goodleaf each received two games for fighting. For the Extreme, Mike Dytynyshyn and Michael St-Pierre each received two games for fighting. While Roy was given a $50 fine for “injurious language” and was not issued a suspension.
The loss of three of the Indians offensive players proved costly to the team. At the start of the second period the Indians were down by one man, as they had to kill off a five-minute major as a result of the brawl. The Extreme were able to score two goals on that power play and five in the period to take a 5-4 lead into the third.
The Extreme were able to extend the lead to 6-4 at 12:27 of the third period off a goal by Dylan Gordon. The Indians were able to come to within one when Cody Delormier netted one with 54 seconds left in the game. Then with about 20 seconds left in the game it appeared that Winston Goodleaf scored the game-tying goal.
After the ball went into the net, Goodleaf had been checked from behind into the goalie and referee Ghislain Sonier called the goal back citing a crease violation. Sherbrooke scored an empty net goal with three seconds left in the game.
The Indians had their home opener last night against the Valleyfield Dynomites. The Kahnawake Mohawks will open their season in Sherbrooke tonight and their home opener is scheduled for tomorrow against the Caughnawaga Indians.
